This blog is officially rated-G and is suitable for all ages.

I was reading Dan Kimball's blog this morning and he had this new post the blog rating system, kind of like a movie rating system.  Unfortunately, his blog was rated-R, which is funny for a pastor's blog, but I guess it was rated as such for his use of the words: missionary, death, hell, and dead.

Maybe in the future I guess my blog will get red flagged too, but for now it's suitable for all viewers.  I remember getting in trouble back in bible college days for using the word "crap" a couple times in one of my sermons that I preached in chapel, but in general I try to keep a tight reign on the ravaging beast that is my tongue.  So, until further notice I guess, you can let the kids out of the basement and run wild on the internet again (at least on this site).

I'm back . . . and has it been busy

Wow, what hasnt' happened in the last two weeks.  Have I got some stories for you.  I don't think that I will get to it all, but this will at least be a start, and in the next few days I should be able get to the rest of it.

Well let's see, the last few days have brought:

    1. Another car repair!  Another $400 to fix a computer sensor in the fuel system.  It's amazing how you can go from never having had a repair in 4 years to having 2 cost you $750 in a month.  I think the thing that bothers me the most is that it's computer sensors that are going and not real parts.  If an engine part goes I can understand it from wear and tear, but computer sensors are a lot more worrisome.  According the mechanic though there's only like 100 or so sensors in the system so that means it could only cost us like another $25,000 to replace all the sensors.

    2. A couple nights of house guests; all totally welcome of course.  It was nice to have some close friends come to visit and spend time with us in our house and community.  It kind of makes our house here feel more like home when there are old friends here, and less like a bubble that separates us from the rest of the world.

    3. A trip to Banff!  Like the nights with house guests, the trip to Banff with old college buddies was extremely therapeutic.  It was great to spend a couple days just sitting around and talking with people I know well and know me well.  Reminiscing about old times, including certain stuffed animals in the dorm, catching up on where they're at now, and discussing things of substance with some of the people I know and respect most.  After this I'm certainly looking forward to the next get together two years from now.

    4. Seeing the new Transformers movie . . . twice!  After seeing it, I think it's fair to say there is a new greatest movie of all time in the history of ever (with all due respect to my brother)!  I admit that it was far from perfect, but even with the slightly bothersome things in the movie (bothersome to a Transformers oldtimer like me), I think that the sheer wonder of seeing a 45 minute long giant robot fight, and hearing the original voice of Optimus Prime again made it all worthwhile.  I can't wait to see the sequel already.

    5. A lot of time spent listening to podcasts.  Now I've had my iPod for quite a few months now, and I knew what podcasts were, but it's just in the past couple weeks that I've really started looking through what's available out there and subscribing to a number of them.  A few of my favorites have been the LOSTcast (a weekly podcast on the tv show LOST), Saturday's with Mark and Tony (a weekly discussion between Mark Lowry and Tony Campolo on life and things of God), and Strong-bad Emails (pure silliness in the form a a flash cartoon).  I love that they are all delivered to me free without even trying.  The only difficulty is that one only has so much time in their life to listen to these podcasts, or do anything else for that matter.

    6. A realization that for as much as I know and have learned, that there isn't nearly enough time in this life to take in as much as I'd like.  There are so many books to read, so many people to listen to, so many people to minister to, so many football games to watch, so many games to play, that there is no way that a person can take it all in in such a short lifetime.  It's made me really hope that all this stuff will be available to us too in the next life.

    7. The halfway point in the pregnancy!  Yesterday marked the halfway point in the pregnancy, so we celebrated with DQ and a trip to the driving range.  A nice cheap date and celebration for only $10.  We are so excited for the baby to finally get here, but it's still another 4.5 months.  That's still the entirety of NFL training camp, preseason, and the first 3/4's of the regular season!  That's a long time.  Or to put it in different terms, it's the rest of the entire CFL season and playoffs.  It will go fast with holidays and football to fill the time, but it's still a long time.

    8. A night spent in the cold room in the basement.  A couple weeks back now, we had a major storm come through here that knocked out the power for about 19 hours, uprooted big trees, brought tornado warnings, and generally sounded like our roof was going to come off.  Thankfully it didn't, but it certainly gave us a bit of a prompting to put together one of those emergency preparedness kits for our coldroom.  Hopefully we never have a night like that again.

    9. A general lack of sleep.  Over the past two weeks since me last post I have had bedtimes of 4am, 1am, 3am, 2am, 1am, 3am, 3am, and 2am (the rest of the nights would have been around midnight so they aren't worth mentioning).  It's been a lot of fun being able to live in my primetime between 6pm and 4am again like in college, but it has made for some tired days when wakeup time still has to be at 7am to go to work.  Despite the lack of sleep, it has all been worth it.

So ya, I guess that's the beginning of the story to bring you up to date (sorry for another shameless ripoff from my brother's blog) and stay tuned over the next few days for the rest of the story (sorry for the shameless Paul Harvery ripoff too).
